Audio Drama 101: Melange

Author: Lend-A-Hand Society
Average review score:

Classics come to life with talented Actors
It truly is magnificent when you can click the play button on your cassette and hear classic stories come alive in theatrical form with the help of some very talented performers. I enjoyed visualizing the scenes and creating my very own theater of the mind as I listened to the various stories. Music, sound effects, and production is flawless and the talent is superb. I would have gladly paid the listed price for just ONE story, yet you get 10 magnificent dramas on 6 cassettes! A must buy for anyone who appreciates great writing, performing, and clever audio production.

a great experience in listening to classic short stories
As a non-English speaker, I found it rather difficult to read or appreciate English short stories. Thanks to this wonderful audiobook, life has become much easier for me. AudioDrama 101 volumeIII contains stories written by Henry James and Somerset Maughm and Saki, just to name a few. The good thing about this audiobook is that it is an unabridged version. Unlike most dramatized audiobooks, which tend to overstrech stories in order to create more dramatic effect, Audiodrama 101 follows the original stories line by line, but with controlled yet suitable sound effect. Unlike reading version of audiobook, which tends to become dull after a while, audiodrama101 using various actors and actresses, combined with fine narration, has created a brand new listening experience for anyone who are interested in audiobook.

Reads like fiction
AWOL, a non-fiction novel by Jack Hand, has all the action and drama of a Best Seller. Incident after incident we are led through crazy schemes, astonishing punishments, and an unbelievable ending. AWOL reads like fiction as Mr. Hand offers us glimpses into the ugliness of war. This well written tale will keep you entertained, page after page.
Beverly J Scott author of Righteous Revenge.

Great read-can't put it down
When I started this book I couldn't put it down. From start to finish. Very well written. It's sad, heart-warming, a love story ---it makes you want more. I hope this author writes more.

Baby Hands & Baby Feet: Poems and Drawings from the Nursery
Published in Paperback by Neonatal Network (June, 1995)
Author: Nancy J. Kennedy
Average review score:

This book is a treasure....an affirmation of life.
This remarkable book touched my heart. It took me into the world of seriously ill babies, not easy territory. Yet oddly, I didn't want to leave. Through Nancy Kennedy's rich and sensitive poetry and David Pegher's exquisite sketches, these babies and their parents and nurses come to vivid life. Each tiny bundle, looking precious even attached to oxygen or other medical devices, has a big personality. Each baby not only responds to love and care in a unique way, but also gives back a love so strong it is transformative, even to the reader.

Amazingly, what I felt as I was immersed in the world of infant intensive care was not pity, but wonder at the strength and dignity of us all...the babies, the parents, the caregivers.

When I finished reading I was surprised not to feel sad. As I turned back to reread it, I realized Baby Hands & Baby Feet is a powerful affirmation of life.

Insightful
I personally know Nancy Kennedy and her book is a tribute to all NICU families and professionals. How is it that a neonatal nurse can know how a parent feels? Through insight - and Nancy has it. Thanks Nancy for understanding parents! Denise Merrill Publisher ICU Parenting Magazine

Bad Hand: A Biography of General Ranald S. Mackenzie
Published in Hardcover by State House Pr (May, 1993)
Authors: Charles M. Robinson and Stanley Hoig
Average review score:

...and he's forgotten??
This was a good book. General MacKenzie WAS the great American Indian/bandit fighter which spawned the myth(?) of the American West in the next century (John Wayne played MacKenzie's role in "Rio Grande"). As for his place in history, he was not shot down in his prime the way the inept Custer was, and as a result, he has all but been forgotten in Western lore (his going mentally insane didn't help matters either).

The book reads easily, flows well and the author doesn't bog you down with unimportant details. I recommend this book to anyone with a mild-to-high curiosity about the Indian Wars and the history of the American Southwest in the late 1800s.

"Bad Hand" Worthy of Remembrance
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Coverage of Ranald Mackenzie is rather sparse and this book does a great job of detailing the man's entire life. Mackenzie was one of the many frontier heros who did not gain the notariety of other Indian fighters, but he was one of the most successful. Mackenzie showed the ability to learn from his mistakes and adapt tactics as necessary. He also served in all the theaters of Indian warfare (Northern Plains, Southern Plains, US/Mexico Border, and Arizona). This book is easy and entertaining to read and will hopefully help us remember an Indian fighter that history has tried to forget.

The Benham Book of Palmistry: A Practical Treatise on the Laws of Scientific Hand Reading
Published in Hardcover by Borgo Pr (January, 1989)
Author: William G. Benham
Average review score:

The Bible of Palmistry!
This book by William Benham is known as the Bible of Palmistry! For any serious student and practitioner of Palmistry, this book is a must in your library.

Excellant book for advanced Palm readers
I have been reading palms for years and find this book to be the finest and most complete I have ever seen. Although the pictures and diagrams are dated, the knowledge is exceptional. The only draw back is that I would not recommend this book for beginners. You must have a solid knowledge of palmistry before studying this book. The vast majority of books out there are the exact same one repeated with flashy diagrams and pictures. This book is an actual scientific look at Palm reading

Better Health With Foot Reflexology
Published in Paperback by Ingham Publishing, Inc. (1997)
Authors: Dwight C. Byers, John Bloch, and Dwight Byers
Average review score:

The one book you need!
This is THE book to buy on reflexology! There are a lot of other books and methods out there but this book is the original. Dwight Byers has perfected the art of reflexology, first developed by his aunt, Eunice Ingham. Not only is the information in the book presented in a clear, concise manner but it is the most accurate information on reflexology available. If you want to do reflexology either professionally or just on family and friends, this book contains what you need to be the best at what you do.

Mastering the Art & Science of Foot (and Hand) Reflexology.
This book is absolutely the very best, and most scientifically thoughtful reflexology text I have ever read, or even browsed through. I wish that this book were used as text for the 18 hour course I completed at a nearby massage school; it is that good.

Mr. Byers draws on his years of close, personal work with his Aunt Eunice Ingham (a practicing nurse), her notes, her correspondance; as well as, his own experience as a practicing reflexologist, scientist, teacher, and lecturer as matterial this dynamic text. What makes this such an awsome book is that he not only covers time-proven, accurate methods of foot reflexology, but also anatomy & physiology which is such crucial knowledge for anyone interested in holistic medicine. I have not seen such adequate coverage of anatomy in any other volume, as it appears here. In addition, Mr. Byers takes an uncubersome scienticic approach, coupled with an easy reading, easy comprehending writting style, with plenty of clear illustrations which makes it a perfect for practitioner and layman alike. He leaves nothing to the immagination. Though I have one copy already, I intend to purchase another for a backup -something I've never done with any other book. It is that good!!!!!!!

Please, please, please buy this book, you won't be sorry!!!

Big Battles For Little Hands
Published in Paperback by LMW Works (01 July, 2002)
Authors: John R. Buck Surdu and Rob Dean
Average review score:

Not just for little hands...
While the book is pitched for use with kids, I think a better approach would be to aim it at anyone new to wargaming that wonders what it is all about. I found the 5 page History of Warfare and 5 page Primer on Tactics superb - both concise and interesting - making me want to go review my history lessons and explaining to me what I was always doing wrong at the gaming table!

Two sets of rules are included: the "Milk and Cookies" rules for bigger battles (where a player controls blocks of troops) I have used for games at several wargaming conventions in games for kids and parents-new-to-wargaming with great success. The "Blood and Swash" rules are a reprint of an older rule set for skirmishes (where each player controls a small number of figures) that allows great flexibility in scenario and setting - I have played in games using those rules for 18th century pirate tavern brawls on up to Buck Rogers era conflicts, and enjoyed them all. The differences between the rule sets make having both here far from redundant, and the apparent simplicity of both the rule sets does not mean that the resulting games are either uninteresting or inaccurate.

The back of the book with directions and tips on painting and terrain construction are okay, though I liked the front portions - described above - better. For example, I don't see myself ever homecasting figures, and the painting tips I had already heard as I was first drawn into this hobby. But they complete the picture and make this a good all round reference that you could even send to someone unfamiliar with the hobby and expect them to be able to cope without the support of a local wargaming group or club.

Just what I was looking for...
As a wargamer of 25 years with two young sons, I have struggled with determining the best way to introduce my boys to the world of miniature wargames. Now I have the answer. Rob and Buck do an excellent job of explaining how to create a pleasureable wargaming experience for kids. If you are looking for a simple set of rules covering many historical periods that are explained in a clear way, then this book is for you.

Authors: Anil Jain, Ruud Bolle, and Sharath Pankanti
Average review score:

An excellent overview
This book covers the whole field of biometrics in 19 articles. The articles I read are very well written and have lots of references for further study. I highly recommend the book for those who want a medium depth introduction or details about some specific biometrics.
